Practical test tips

A good preparation goes beyond just knowing the routes and manoeuvring areas. The tips below help you start your practical test feeling confident and calm.

Don't plan your last practice run too late

Drive your last practice route preferably a few days before the exam, not the evening before. That way you stay calm and fresh instead of practising stressed.

Know the area around your exam centre

Practise the routes and manoeuvring area around your exam centre in advance, so junctions and roundabouts don't surprise you on exam day.

Arrive with plenty of time to spare

Leave with enough margin, so traffic or searching for a parking spot doesn't cause extra stress right before your exam.

Breathe and take your time

A short pause to breathe calmly before you set off helps you stay clear-headed during the test.

Say out loud what you're doing during special manoeuvres

For manoeuvres like reverse parking, it helps to perform your checks (mirrors, blind spot) consciously and visibly.

Stay calm after a small mistake

One small mistake doesn't automatically mean you'll fail. Focus on the rest of the drive instead of dwelling on it.
